A brake pedal apparatus (1) for a vehicle is provided with a pedal bracket (2) having a pivot shaft (4), a pivot bracket (3) having a pedal shaft (6), a pedal arm (8), a slide plate (9) fixed to a body structural member of the vehicle and located between the body structural member and the pedal bracket (2), an impact absorbing section, and a rotational motion assisting section. The impact absorbing section permits relative movement of the pivot bracket (3) and the body structural member in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle when the pedal bracket (2) encounters an external force directed rearward of the vehicle at a level beyond a predetermined load, in such a manner that the pivot bracket (3) disengages from the slide plate (9) to allow the pivot bracket (3) to rotate about the pivot shaft (4) while rotating the pedal shaft (6) therewith rearwardly downward of the vehicle. Also, the rotational motion assisting section is normally held in an inoperative position, and operable to be brought into abutting engagement with at least one of the body structural member and the slide plate (9) to promote rotational movement of the pivot bracket (3) about the pivot shaft caused by the impact absorbing section.

L'invention concerne un ensemble pédale de frein (1) pour un véhicule, comprenant un support de pédale (2) qui présente une tige de pivot (4), un support de pivot (3) comprenant une tige de pédale (6), un bras de pédale (8), une plaque coulissante (9) fixée à un élément de la structure de la carrosserie du véhicule et située entre cet élément de structure et le support de pédale (2), une partie d'absorption d'impact, et une partie d'assistance de rotation. La partie d'absorption d'impact permet un mouvement relatif du support de pivot (3) et de l'élément de structure dans la direction longitudinale du véhicule lorsque le support de pédale (2) est soumis à une force extérieure s'exerçant vers l'arrière du véhicule et correspondant à une valeur supérieure à une charge prédéterminée, de sorte que le support de pivot (3) se dégage de la plaque coulissante (9) pour pouvoir tourner autour de la tige de pivot (4), tout en entraînant en rotation la tige de pédale (6) vers l'arrière et vers le bas du véhicule. La partie d'assistance de rotation est normalement maintenue en position de repos. Elle peut être activée afin de venir en butée au moins contre l'élément de structure de carrosserie (3) ou la plaque coulissante (9) afin de faciliter la rotation du support de pivot (3) autour de la tige de pivot, provoquée par la partie d'absorption d'impact.
