The invention is directed to a method for transmitting control information such as acknowledgement messages in a cellular telecommunications network. According to the invention, the acknowledgement messages (ACK-PDU) are transmitted more protected by repeating the ACK-PDUs several times and using soft combining. The soft combining mechanism is preferably the same as for actual data. Preferably, the ACK-PDUs are not requested to be retransmitted but are immediately repeated several times. The inventive method is most advantageous, if the soft combining of transmitted data units (PDUs) is performed on the basis of physical layer information such as physical layer frame numbers, since acknowledgment messages do not normally have a packet number as the data units, which the ACK messages refer to. The inventive method can be used for transmission of other control information as well, and is not limited to transmission of only ACK messages.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant la transmission d'informations de commande telles que les messages d'accusé de réception dans un réseau de télécommunication cellulaire. Dans ce procédé, les messages (ACK-PDU) d'accusé sont mieux protégés grâce à une transmission réitérée à plusieurs reprises associée à une combinaison pondérée (soft combining). Le mécanisme de combinaison pondérée est de préférence le même que celui qui est utilisé pour les données proprement dites. Les messages ACK-PDU ne font de préférence pas l'objet d'une demande de retransmission mais sont répétés immédiatement plusieurs fois. Ce procédé est très avantageux lorsque la combinaison pondérée des unités de données (PDU) est effectuée à partir d'une information de la couche physique telle que les numéros de trame de la couche physique, étant donné que les messages d'accusé de réception ne comportent habituellement pas de numéros de paquets, contrairement aux unités de données auxquelles ces messages ACK se réfèrent. Ce procédé peut également servir à la transmission d'autres informations de commande et n'est pas limité à la transmission des messages d'accusé de réception.
