The present invention provides variants of precursor phenol oxidizing enzymes. The precursor enzymes can be, for example, naturally-occurring or recombinant phenol oxidizing enzymes. The variant enzymes, in general, are obtained by modification of a precursor DNA sequence encoding the naturally-occurring or recombinant phenol oxidizing enzyme to generate the substitution of one or more amino acids in the encoded amino acid sequence. Variant enzymes are disclosed having properties which differ from those of their respective precursor enzymes, e.g., altered pH optima and/or phenol oxidizing activity and/or altered stability. The variant enzymes of the present invention are especially useful in detergent formulations, for example, to modify (bleach) the color associated with colored compounds.

La présente invention concerne des variantes d'enzymes précurseurs d'oxydation du phénol. Ces enzymes précurseurs peuvent être, par exemple, des enzymes d'oxydation du phénol recombinantes ou d'origine naturelle. Ces variantes d'enzymes sont en général obtenues par modification d'une séquence d'ADN précurseur codant pour l'enzyme d'oxydation du phénol recombinantes ou d'origine naturelle, de manière à entraîner la substitution d'un ou de plusieurs acides aminés dans la séquence d'acides aminés codée. Lesdites variantes d'enzymes présentent des propriétés qui diffèrent de celles de leurs enzymes précurseurs respectives, p. ex., pH optimum modifié et/ou activité d'oxydation du phénol modifiée et/ou stabilité modifiée. Les variantes d'enzymes de la présente invention conviennent en particulier dans des formulations détergentes, par exemple, pour modifier (blanchir) la couleur associée à des composés colorés.
