A foam extrusion assembly having a melt region which melts material pellets, an agent addition assembly which adds a foaming agent to the pellets, and a mixing assembly which mixes the pellets and the agent with one another. The mixing assembly includes an elongated barrel through which the pellets and the agent are urged from an inlet to an outlet of the barrel. The mixing assembly includes a mixing plug disposed in the barrel passages along a length thereof, the flow passages, which are structured and disposed to receive the pellets and the agent therethrough so as to define a flow path past the mixing plug, each have at least one small transverse dimension so as to restrict amounts of the pellets and the agent which enter the flow passage at one time, and are short in length as to minimize a duration of a flow restriciton at the flow passages.

L'invention concerne un ensemble d'extrusion de mousse à région de fusion qui reçoit et met en fusion une pluralité de pastilles de matériau, un ensemble d'adjonction d'agent qui ajoute un agent moussant aux pastilles fondues, et un ensemble de mélange qui mélange sensiblement les pastilles et l'agent. L'ensemble de mélange comprend un tambour généralement allongé à travers lequel les pastilles fondues et l'agent sont injectés, depuis une entrée vers une sortie du tambour. L'ensemble de mélange comprend un bouchon de mélange conçu et placé dans le tambour pour définir au moins deux passages en position séquentielle sur la longueur du tambour. Ces passages sont conçus et disposés pour recevoir les pastilles fondues et l'agent. Un trajet d'écoulement est ainsi défini devant le bouchon de mélange. Chaque passage comporte au moins une dimension transversale sensiblement réduite permettant de restreindre les quantités de pastilles fondues et d'agent pénétrant à la fois dans le passage. La longueur de chaque passage est généralement réduite, ce qui permet de réduire au minimum la durée de restriction de flux dans le passage. Il en résulte un mélange d'extrusion bien homogénéisé qui traverse une filière à température d'extrusion pour donner le produit de mousse extrudé.
