Abstract

A burn-in socket is provided for testing an IC package having an array of solder balls on a bottom surface thereof. The socket including a body having a receptacle for receiving the IC package. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the body, with contact portions of the terminals exposed in the receptacle for engaging the solder balls of the IC package. The contact portion of each terminal is bifurcated to define a pair of opposing jaws for engaging the sides of a respective one of the solder balls therebetween. A spreader mechanism is movably mounted on the socket body for spreading the jaws in opposite directions to allow the solder balls of the IC package to be inserted between the spread jaws in a continuous linear motion as the IC package is inserted into the receptacle.

Cette invention concerne un support de vieillissement permettant de tester un circuit intégré complet dont une surface de fond comporte un ensemble de billes de soudure. Ce support comprend un corps avec un réceptacle conçu pour recevoir le circuit intégré complet. Sur le corps est montée une pluralité de bornes dont des parties de contact exposées dans le réceptacle viennent s'engager avec les billes de soudure du circuit intégré complet. La partie contact de chaque borne fait une fourche et définit une paire de mâchoires opposées qui s'engagent de part et d'autre des billes de soudure correspondantes. Un mécanisme écarteur monté mobile sur le corps du support de vieillissement écarte les mâchoires en sens opposé pour que les billes de soudures du circuit intégré complet puissent être insérées entre les mâchoires selon un mouvement linéaire continu au fur et à mesure que le circuit imprimé est introduit dans le réceptacle.
