Method and apparatus are provided for seamless integration of multiple video projectors (100a, 100b). Edge blending and projection artifacts in dark or black image regions caused by residual grays from non-perfect projector black levels are reduced. Overlapped (102a, 102b) and non-overlapped areas (104a, 104b) are defined and then the minimum black level (208) of the video signal in non-overlapped areas is boosted without affecting the bright portion of the video signal in order to create uniform black level. The bright portion of the image is then smoothed in the overlapped area with seamless edge blending techniques. The resultant projected image may be passed through a neutral density filter (562). The image may also pass through a physical mask (712a, 712b).

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant une intégration continue de multiples projecteurs vidéo. Outre le fondu des bords, les artéfacts de projection dans des zones d'image en noir et blanc causés par des grisés résiduels des niveaux du noir de projecteurs imparfaits sont réduits. On définit les zones de chevauchement et les zones de non chevauchement de l'image puis on amplifie le niveau du noir minimum du signal vidéo dans les zones de non chevauchement sans affecter la partie claire de ce signal vidéo de façon à créer un niveau du noir uniforme. Puis on lisse la partie claire de l'image dans la zone de chevauchement avec des techniques de fondu de bord continu. L'image projetée qui en résulte peut être passée à travers un filtre de densité neutre de façon à abaisser le niveau du noir de base de ces zones noires de chevauchement et de non chevauchement maintenant connues. L'image peut aussi être passée à travers un masque physique à bord dur ou gradué et aligné sur une partie inférieure à la totalité de la zone de chevauchement et qui, lorsqu'on l'utilise, lisse le bord de transition entre les zones de chevauchement et de non chevauchement.
