A method of manufacturing a light modulating capacitor display by successive operations on a assembly comprising forming a layer of a conductive material on a substrate (10) in a pattern is disclosed. The pattern forms a plurality of fixed electrodes (16, 24). The pattern forms electrical conductors for driving the fixed electrodes (16, 24) and electrical conductors for driving shutter electrodes. A layer of insulative material (50) is laid over portions of the pattern forming the plurality of fixed electrodes (16, 24). A shutter electrode forming layer is attached to the assembly. The shutter electrode forming layer has a conductive side and a non-conductive side. The conductive side is placed in facing, contacting relationship to the layer of insulative material (50) and the pattern of conductive material. The conductive material is removed from the shutter electrode forming layer to form groups of shutter electrodes. A plurality of shutters are cut from the shutter electrode forming layer.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un écran à condensateurs à modulation de lumière, par des opérations successives sur un ensemble. Le procédé consiste à former une couche d'une matière conductrice sur le substrat (10) selon un motif. Ce dernier forme plusieurs électrodes fixes (16, 24), ainsi que des conducteurs électriques pour exciter les électrodes fixes (16, 24) et des conducteurs pour exciter des électrodes volets. Une couche de matière isolante (50) est déposée sur les parties du motif formant les électrodes fixes (16, 24). Une couche de formation des électrodes volets est fixée à l'ensemble. Cette couche est placée face à la couche de matière isolante (50) et au motif de matière conductrice et au contact de ces derniers. La matière conductrice est retirée de la couche de formation des électrodes volets pour former des groupes d'électrodes volets. Plusieurs volets sont coupés de la couche de formation des électrodes volets.
