Abstract:
(EN) The present invention provides a system and method for providing directions (204) from a current location of a user or viewer of an electronic signal such as a program or commercial broadcast by radio (212) or television (208) to a destination associated with the electronic signal by accessing an address embedded within or transmitted in conjunction with the electronic signal. The address provides an indication (216) to an online information provider and/or a database within which a listing of locations for a destination are provided. By comparing the various locations of the destination against the current location of the user, preferably determined using Global Positioning System data, the present invention determines which location of the destination is closest and provides direction thereto. Additionally, the present invention may be configured to generate maps (204) or various other directional tools, including verbal directions (200) and visual directions (204). In an alternative embodiment, the present invention also generates reverse directions from a destination to other predetermined way-points such home, office, and starting point.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant de fournir des instructions à partir d'une localisation actuelle d'un utilisateur ou d'un téléspectateur d'un signal électronique tel une diffusion radiophonique ou télévisuelle d'une émission ou d'un programme commercial vers une destination associée au signal électronique par l'accès à une adresse intégrée au sein du signal électronique ou transmise conjointement avec celui-ci. L'adresse fournit une indication concernant un fournisseur d'informations en ligne et/ou une base de données au sein duquel est prévue une liste de locations. En effectuant une comparaison entre les diverses locations par rapport à la localisation actuelle de l'utilisateur, de préférence déterminée par l'utilisation du système de positionnement global, la présente invention détermine laquelle des locations est la plus proche et fournit des instructions à celle-ci.
