Abstract:
A work holding device useful and suitable for machining a long object such as a cam shaft and a valve spool of a large engine, a milling machine, and a long work machining method, the method comprising the steps of holding a work at two clamp positions by chucks (4) and (5) of a head stock (1) and a tail stock (2), changing the work clamp positions to another work positions after the middle part of the work held by both chucks (4) and (5) is machined, further machining the middle part of the work held by both chucks (4) and (5), repeating the work hold change operation, and each time the work is changed, changing the position of the work held for machining by both chucks (4) and (5) so that the overall length of the work can be machined.
