1. (WO2001086500) METHOD AND ARRANGEMENT FOR MANAGING IMAGES IN A COMPUTER SYSTEM

CLAIMS

1. A method for managing image material, comprising microscope images of biologic material, in a computer system (101) which is adapted to communicate with computers (105, 106, 107) of a number of users via a network (108) , the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database (109) connected to the computer system (101) , c h a r a c -t e r i s e d by the step of
- storing (301) at least one link to a first image file, which comprises a microscope image, among said image files in an exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said exclusive memory area being associated with at least a first user among said number of users and being available for said first user via the computer system, whereby image information associated with the first image file and including the enlargement factor of the microscope image becomes avail-able for said first user by reference to said link.
2. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 1, the method further comprising the step of
- storing (302) a comment, which is generated in the computer of said first user and associated with said link (302) , in said exclusive memory area.
3. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , further comprising the step of
- storing (303) an instruction, which is associated with said link and concerns how said first image file is to be processed, in said exclusive memory area.
4. A method for managing image material as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said microscope image images biologic material and wherein said image information comprises information about this material.
5. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 3, wherein said instruction which concerns processing of said image file comprises one of the following operations: enlargement, zooming, panning, focussing, color-balancing, adjustment of brightness, filtration, marking of details, cutting out partial images or recognition of objects.

An arrangement for managing image material, comprising microscope images of biologic material, in a computer system, which is adapted to communicate with computers of a number of users via a network, the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d by means for storing at least one link to a first image file, which comprises a microscope image, among said image files in an
exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said exclusive memory area being
associated with at least a first user among said number of users and available for said first user via
thecomputer system, whereby image information associated with the first image file and including the enlargement factor of the microscope image becomes available for said first user by reference to said link.

A digital storage medium which is readable to a computer system and which comprises a computer program for managing image material, comprising microscope images of biologic material, in a computer system, which is adapted to communicate with computers of a number of users via a network, the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d in that the computer program comprises instructions for the step of
- storing at least one link to a first image file, which comprises a microscope image among said image files, in an exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said exclusive memory area being associated with at least a first user among said number of users and being available for said first user via the computer system, whereby image information, which is associated with the first image file and which includes the enlargement factor of the microscope image, becomes available for said first user by reference to said link.

A method for managing image material in a computer system (101) , which is adapted to communicate with computers (105, 106, 107) of a number of users via a network (108) , the image material comprising a number of image files, which are stored in an image, database (109) connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d by the steps of
- transferring (401) a program code from the computer system to the computer of a first user, which is included in said number of users, the code being intended to be executed in this computer,
- receiving (402) a request to transfer graphical information corresponding to a first image file among said number of image files from said first user, by a link to the first image file being referred to by the computer of the first user, said link being stored in an exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said exclusive memory area being associated with at least said first user and being available for said first user via the computer system, and
- transferring (403) graphical information, which corresponds to said first image file, to the computer of the first user, said information being intended to be processed by the computer of the first user while using said program code, whereby said image information, which is associated with the first image file, becomes available for said first user.
9. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 8, further comprising the step of
- transferring (404) a comment, which is associated with said link and which is stored in said exclusive mem- ory area, to the first user, said program code being adapted to visually reproduce the transmitted comment.
10. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 8 or 9, further comprising the step of
- transferring (405) an instruction, which is associated with said link and which is stored in said exclusive memory area, to the first user, said instruction concerning how said graphical information is to be processed, said program code being adapted to process said graphical information in accordance with this instruction.
11. A method for managing image material as claimed in any one of claims 8-10, wherein said first image file is a microscope image and wherein said image information comprises with which enlargement factor this is taken.
12. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 11, wherein said microscope image images biological material and wherein said image information comprises information about this material.
13. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 10, wherein said instruction which concerns processing of said image file comprises one of the following operations: enlargement, zooming, panning, focussing, color-balancing, adjustment of brightness, filtration, marking of details, cutting out partial images or recognition of objects.
14. A method for managing image material as claimed in any one of claims 8-13, wherein said graphical information which corresponds to said first image file com-prises said first image file.
15. A method for managing image material as claimed in any one of claims 8-13, wherein said graphical information which corresponds to said first image file comprises a compressed version of said first image file.
16. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 15, wherein said compressed version of the first image file is stored in the image database.

A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 15, wherein said compressed version of the first image file is created by the computer system, by processing of the first image file, after said request to trans-fer graphical information which corresponds to the first image file has been received by the computer system.
18. A method for managing image material as claimed in any one of claims 8-17, further comprising the step of

- transferring (406) at least a subset of said image information to the computer of the first user to be displayed in this computer while using said program code.
19. A method for managing image material as claimed in claim 20, wherein the program code comprises instructions corresponding to a graphical user interface and wherein said subset of information is intended to be displayed when the first user marks a corresponding function in the user interface.

An arrangement for managing image material in a computer system, which is adapted to communicate with computers of a number of users via a network, the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d by means for
transferring a program code from the computer system to the computer of a first user, said first user being included in said number of users, the code being intended to be executed in this computer; means for receiving a request to transfer graphical information which
corresponds to a first image file among said number of image files, from said first user, by a link to the first image file being referred to by the first user, said link being stored in an exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said exclusive memory area being associated with at least said first user and being available for said first user via the computer system; and means for transferring graphical information, which corresponds to said first image file, to the computer of the first user, said information being intended to be processed by the computer of the first user while using said program code, whereby image
information, which is associated with the first image file, becomes available for said first user.
21. A digital storage medium, which is readable to a computer system and which comprises a computer program for managing image material in a computer system, which is adapted to communicate with computers of a number of users via a network, the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d in that the computer program comprises instructions for the steps of
- transferring a program code from the computer system to the computer of a first user, said first user being included in said number of users, the code being intended to be executed in this computer,
- receiving a request to transfer graphical informa-tion, which corresponds to a first image file among said number of image files, from said first user, by a link to the first image file being referred to by the first user, said link being stored in an exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said ex-elusive memory area being associated with at least said first user and being available for said first user via the computer system, and
- transferring graphical information, which corresponds to said first image file, to the computer of the first user, said information being intended to be processed by the computer of the first user while using said program code, whereby image information, which is associated with the first image file, becomes available for said first user.
22. A method for managing image material in a computer system (101) , which is adapted to communicate with computers (105, 106, 107) of a number of users via a net- work (108) , the image material comprising a number of image files which are stored in an image database (109) connected to the computer system, c h a r a c t e r i s e d by the step of
- transferring (501) at least one link to a first image file among said image files, said link being stored in a first exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said first exclusive memory area being associated with at least a first user among said number of users and being available for said first user via the computer system, to a second exclusive memory area on a memory medium connected to the computer system, said second exclusive memory area being associated with at least a second user among said number of users and being available for said second user via the computer system, whereby image information associated with the first image file becomes available for said second user by reference to said link.
