Abstract
(EN) An image signal converter suitable for converting, for example, an SD signal (525i) into an HD signal (525P). An image signal converting section (110) converts an SD signal into an HD signal and displays an image on a display section (111). The space class or the movement class is determined from the pixel data of a tap corresponding to the pixel concerned of the HD signal taken out selectively from the SD signal and a class code CL indicative of the class thereof is obtained. When a user selects the resolution, a controller (101) loads coefficient data on each class of the selected resolution to a coefficient memory (134) from an information memory bank (135). An operating circuit (127) operates the pixel data of the pixel concerned of the HD signal according to an estimation expression based on the data xi of a tap corresponding to the pixel of the HD signal taken out selectively from the SD signal through a tap selection circuit (121), and coefficient data wi read out from the coefficient memory (134) with the class code CL.
