Abstract

A mobile platform (10) includes GPS sensors (12) to collect position information for storage in a database (18). Sensors (22) further collect platform operational information for storage. A control processor (24) for the mobile platform collects the stored information for periodic transmission over a wireless communications link (26) to a remote location for further processing. The control processor is configured to periodically engage in data collection form sensors at a first rate and remotely report any interim collected information over the wireless communication link at a second rate. Preferably, the first rate is greater than the second rate by integer multiple to most efficiently and economically utilize wireless communication resources. At the remote location, a central controller receives the mobile platform reported information for processing in accordance with tracking management applications. An interface to the central controller allows a user to control the information collection and reporting operations of the control processor and the tracking management functions performed by the central controller.

Une plate-forme mobile (10) comprend des capteurs GPS (12) permettant de collecter des informations de position pour les stocker dans une base de données (18). Lesdits capteurs (22) collectent ensuite des informations de fonctionnement de plate-forme également pour les stocker. Un processeur de commande (24) de plate-forme mobile collecte les informations stockées pour les transmettre périodiquement sur une liaison de communication (26) sans fil à un emplacement distant pour les traiter et les gérer ultérieurement. Ce processeur est configuré de façon à lancer périodiquement une collecte de données à partir de capteurs à un premier débit, et pour générer à distance un rapport périodique d'informations collectées sur la liaison de communication sans fil à un second débit. Le premier débit est, de préférence, supérieur au second d'un multiple entier de façon à utiliser les ressources de communication sans fil de manière plus efficace et plus économique. Au niveau de l'emplacement distant, un contrôleur central reçoit les informations ayant fait l'objet d'un rapport de la plate-forme mobile pour les traiter conformément à des applications de gestion de localisation. Une interface établie avec le contrôleur central permet à un utilisateur de commander les opérations de collecte de données et de génération de rapport du processeur central, et les fonctions de gestion de localisation exécutées par ledit contrôleur central.
