Abstract

A method of forming a low closure force gasket having alternating high and low contact points. The gasket is formed-in-place (FIP) on a surface of a substrate as a bead of a curable elastomeric composition which is issued under an applied pressure from the orifice of a nozzle. The is nozzle is movable relative to the surface of the substrate along at least a first axis disposed generally parallel to the substrate surface, and, optionally, along a second axis disposed generally perpendicular to the substrate surface. The nozzle is moved at a predetermined speed along the first axis, and, optionally, along the second axis to apply the bead along a given path on the substrate. One or more of the applied pressure, the speed of movement of the nozzle along the first axis of step, and the movement of the nozzle along the second axis are controlled to apply the bead in a periodic series of alternating high and low intervals relative to the substrate surface. The elastomeric composition then is cured under substantially atmospheric pressure to form the gasket on the substrate surface, with the high intervals of the bead defining the high contact points of the gasket, and with the low intervals of the bead defining the low contact portions of the gasket.

L'invention concerne un procédé de formage d'une garniture à faible force de fermeture possédant des points de contact faible et élevé. Ladite garniture est formée sur place sur une surface d'un substrat, sous la forme d'un boudin constitué d'une composition élastomère durcissable formée par une pression appliquée de l'orifice d'une buse. Ladite buse est mobile par rapport à la surface du substrat, le long d'au moins un premier axe généralement parallèle à la surface du substrat, et éventuellement, le long d'un deuxième axe généralement perpendiculaire à la surface du substrat. La buse est déplacée à une vitesse prédéterminée le long du premier axe, et, éventuellement, le long du deuxième axe, de manière que le boudin soit appliqué le long d'un chemin donné sur le substrat. La pression appliquée, la vitesse de déplacement de la buse le long du premier axe, et/ou le mouvement de la buse le long du deuxième axe et/sont commandés, de manière que le boudin soit appliqué en séries périodiques de petits et grands intervalles alternés, par rapport à la surface du substrat. La composition élastomère est ensuite laissée à durcir à la pression sensiblement atmosphérique, de manière que la garniture soit formée sur la surface du substrat, les intervalles importants du boudin délimitant les points de contact élevé de la garniture, et les intervalles faibles du boudin délimitant les partie de contact faible de la garniture.
