A system (10) for detecting conditions indicative of substandard performance of cylinders (24) in a diesel engine (12) includes an engine control unit (14) disposed in operable communication with the engine (12) and a computer (16) disposed in informational communication with the engine control unit (14). The engine control unit (14) is in operable communication with the engine (12) through a communication element (18). The system (10) measures the required fuel with all cylinders (24) operating and enables a recommendation to be made with respect to corrective or a maintenance measures that should be undertaken with respect to the cylinder (24). A method for utilizing the system (10) includes comparing fuel requirements of the engine (12) operating under power of all cylinders (24) and under the successive arrest of each of the cylinders (24). The process is repeated until each cylinder (24) is individually removed and all of the data can be compiled and considered to determine the performance of each individual cylinder (24).

La présente invention concerne un système (10) permettant de détecter des états qui indiquent une performance en dessous de la norme des cylindres (24) d'un moteur (12) diesel. Ce système comprend une unité (14) de commande du moteur placée en communication opérationnelle avec le moteur (12) et un ordinateur (16) placé en communication informationnelle avec l'unité (14) de commande du moteur. Cette unité (14) de commande du moteur est en communication opérationnelle avec le moteur (12) via un élément (18) de communication. Le système (10) mesure le carburant nécessaire pour tous les cylindres (24) en fonctionnement et permet de faire une recommandation relative à des mesures d'entretien ou de correction à entreprendre sur ledit cylindre (24).
