A code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) system provides a collision avoidance mechanism for packet communications. When mobile stations (15) attempt to establish links with a base station (13), the base station selects one mobile station to transmit data over an intended uplink channel (UL). The base station (13) transmits a predetermined sequence, during the first frame of the data transmission over the downlink (DL) control channel that corresponds to the intended uplink channel (UL). If several mobile stations detect or mis-perceive successful access attempts, those stations begin data transmissions via respective desired uplink channels. At the same time, the mobile stations (15) listen for the known sequence over the various corresponding downlink channels. Upon successful detection of the known sequence, one mobile station continues transmission of its data over the intended channel. However, any contending mobile station (15) that does not detect the known sequence on the appropriate downlink channel (DL) immediately stops its data transmission.

L'invention concerne un système d'accès multiple par code de répartition (AMCR) qui possède un mécanisme d'évitement des collisions, dans des communications par paquets. Lorsque des postes mobiles (15) tentent d'établir des liaisons avec une station de base (13), celle-ci choisit un poste mobile pour émettre des données sur une voie montante voulue (UL). La station de base (13) transmet une séquence déterminée, pendant la première trame de l'émission de données, sur la voie de commande descendante (DL) qui correspond à la voie montante voulue (UL). Si plusieurs postes mobiles détectent ou perçoivent mal des tentatives d'accès réussies, ils commencent à émettre les données par l'intermédiaire des voies montantes respectives voulues. En même temps, les postes mobiles (15) guettent la séquence connue, sur les diverses voies correspondantes descendantes. Lors de la détection réussie de la séquence connue, un poste mobile continue à émettre ses données sur la voie voulue. Cependant, tout poste mobile concurrent (15) qui ne détecte pas la séquence connue sur la voie descendante appropriée (DL) cesse immédiatement d'émettre des données.
