Abstract
(EN) For routing packets by rules in a packet network, a system and method in a routing device for selecting rules to apply to packets having each N fields in a header, considers rules as entities in N-dimensional space (Fig. 8a), projects the rules onto N-axes in the space, marks the beginning and ending of each projection as breakpoints (Fig. 7), numbers intervals between breakpoints in sequential binary numbers (Fig. 6), associates a subset of the set of rules as applicable to each interval between breakpoints on each axis, then considers a packet as a point in the N-dimensional space according to its header field values, locates the binary numbered interval onto which the point projects on that axis, thereby determining the subset of rules applying to the packet for that axis, and determines the second set of matching rules from the subset of rules by selecting those rules as matching the packet that apply to the packet on at least one of the N axes. Optional and enhanced methods are taught for special circumstances.
(FR) Pour acheminer des paquets dans un réseau de transmission par paquets, au moyen de règles, un système et un procédé d'un dispositif d'acheminement, servant à choisir des règles à appliquer aux paquets possédant chacun des champs N dans une en-tête, considèrent des règles en tant qu'entités dans l'espace N dimensionnel (figure 8a), projettent ces règles sur N axes dans l'espace, marquent le commencement et la fin de chaque projection, en tant que points d'interruption (figure 7), numérotent les intervalles entre les points d'interruption dans des nombres binaires séquentiels (figure 6), associent un sous-ensemble de cet ensemble de règles comme étant applicable à chaque intervalle entre points d'interruption sur chaque axe, puis considèrent un paquet en tant que point dans l'espace N dimensionnel, en fonction des valeurs de champ d'en-tête de celui-ci, situent l'intervalle binaire numéroté sur lequel le point se projette, par rapport à cet axe, et déterminent le second sous-ensemble de règles de correspondance, à partir du sous-ensemble de règles, en choisissant ces règles comme correspondant au paquet et s'appliquant au paquet sur au moins un des axes N. L'invention concerne également des procédés facultatifs et perfectionnés, servant dans des circonstances particulières.
