Abstract
(EN) A method for the production of fine-grain tungsten carbide (WC) powder comprising heating a tungsten precursor compound in contact with a gas mixture including a hydrocarbon such as methane (CH4). The method is preferably a one-step continuous method wherein the heating rate and reaction temperature is well controlled for the economical production of high quality tungsten carbide powder. The tungsten carbide powder advantageously has a high purity and a small crystallite size and can be used in the manufacture of products such as cutting tools having high wear resistance.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'une poudre de carbure de tungstène (WC) à grains fins, qui consiste à chauffer un composé précurseur de tungstène en contact avec un mélange gazeux comprenant un hydrocarbure tel que le méthane (CH4). Le procédé de l'invention est, de préférence, un procédé continu en une étape dans lequel la vitesse de chauffage et la température de réaction sont bien contrôlées afin de permettre la production économique d'une poudre de carbure de tungstène de haute qualité. La poudre de carbure de tungstène de l'invention offre l'avantage d'être d'une grande pureté et de présenter une petite taille de cristallites, ce qui permet de l'utiliser dans la fabrication de produits tels que des outils de coupe possédant une grande résistance à l'usure.
