Abstract

A video processing system for use in ball games played within a predetermined area on a pitch or the like such as cricket, comprising at least four video cameras arranged in spaced apart relationship at fixed positions around the said area, a video processor and ball tracker to which signals from the cameras are fed, a data store for date which models the said area and includes data representative of characteristic features positioned thereon for use in performance of the game, and a store for data appertaining to rules and/or key events of the ball game played, the video processor being operative to; (a) identify in each frame, from each camera, groups of pixels corresponding to the image of a ball; (b) compute for each frame the 3D position of an image thus identified using ball image data from at least two different cameras; (c) predict a ball flight-path from the said 3D ball position as computed in successive frames; and, (d) map the predicted flight-path on the modelled area so as to identify any interaction with one or more of the said characteristic features, which interaction signifies the occurrence of a key event or a rule infringement.

Cette invention a trait à un système de traitement de données vidéo utilisable dans le cadre de jeux de balle dans une zone prédéfinie d'un terrain de jeu ou analogue tel que celui du cricket. Ce système comporte au moins quatre caméras vidéo fixes disposées de part et d'autre de ladite zone, un processeur vidéo et un dispositif de poursuite auquel sont envoyés les signaux émanant des caméras, une mémoire de données qui modélise ladite zone et qui comprend des données représentatives des caractéristiques particulières de la zone, lesquelles sont utilisables lors du déroulement du jeu, ainsi qu'une mémoire pour données relatives aux règles du jeu et/ou aux événements clefs de l'action en cours. Ce processeur vidéo sert, (a), à identifier, dans chaque image provenant de chaque caméra, des groupes de pixels correspondant à l'image d'une balle, (b), à calculer pour chaque image la position en trois dimensions d'une image ainsi identifiée et ce, au moyen des données d'image de balle émanant d'au moins deux caméras différentes, (c), à prévoir la course de la balle à partir de la position en trois dimensions de ladite balle, telle qu'elle a été calculée dans les images successives, et (d), à faire une projection de la course prévue sur la zone modélisée de manière à identifier toute interaction survenant avec une ou plusieurs caractéristiques particulières, laquelle interaction signifie la survenue d'un événement clef ou d'une violation de règle.
