Abstract:

(EN)A pre-paid debit account system and method enables customers to make purchases anonymously. The system includes three main functional components: a plurality of current accounts, a host computer and associated account inquiry processor and a plurality of activation/authorization terminals. Each of the accounts having a current account identifier associated with it, but maintained independently of the personal or financial identity of the owner of the funds deposited in the current account. When the system is implemented with a debit card, the card is typically formed of cardboard, paper or plastic and may include a machine readable current account identifier. The main management and processing of the system is effected by the host computer. The host includes a database for storing account identifiers associated with authorized accounts. The data terminals are remote from the host computer and connectable for transmitting data between the terminals and the host computer. The system maintains the account independently of owner's identity and allows for the purchase of goods and services from third parties.
(FR)L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de débit de compte pré-payé qui permet à des clients d'effectuer des achats de manière anonyme. Le système comporte trois composantes fonctionnelles principales : plusieurs comptes courants, un ordinateur hôte et un processeur associé d'enquête de comptes, et plusieurs terminaux d'activation/d'autorisation. Chaque compte se voit associer un identificateur de compte courant mis à jour indépendamment de l'identité personnelle ou financière du détenteur des fonds déposés sur le compte courant. Lorsque le système mis en place est associé à une carte de crédit, la carte est généralement constituée de carton, de papier ou de plastique et peut comporter un identificateur de compte courant lisible par une machine. L'ordinateur hôte effectue la gestion principale et le traitement principal du système. L'ordinateur hôte comprend une base de données servant à stocker les identificateurs de compte associés à des comptes autorisés. Les terminaux de données sont distants de l'ordinateur hôte et peuvent être reliés afin de transmettre des données entre les terminaux et l'ordinateur hôte. Le système met à jour le compte indépendamment de l'identité du détenteur et permet l'achat de biens et de services chez des tiers.
