Abstract:
(EN) This invention relates to a pedestrian protection method and apparatus for use with a motor vehicle, in particular a motor car. The method comprises the steps of: receiving one or more impact signals (12, 112, 62) from one or more impact sensors (14, 114, 52); receiving one or more vehicle parameter signals (18, 118, 32, 132) from one or more vehicle parameter sensors (16, 116, 30, 130); calculating impact parameters from the received signals (12, 112, 18, 118, 32, 132, 62) using reference data stored in a memory; determining if the impact parameters are indicative of a pedestrian impact; and if so, issuing control instructions (24, 124) for activating an impact protection device (26, 126), characterised in that the control instructions (24, 124) are a function of the calculated impact parameters. This allows the air bag to be activated in accordance with the type of impact that has occurred, thereby affording improved protection to the pedestrian.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de protection contre les chocs des piétons avec les automobiles. Le procédé comporte plusieurs opérations. On commence par prendre en compte, d'une part au moins, un signal de collision (12, 112, 62) délivré par au moins un détecteur de collision (14, 114, 52), et d'autre part, au moins un signal de paramètres d'automobile (18, 118, 32, 132) fourni par au moins un capteur de paramètre d'automobile (16, 116, 30, 130). A partir des signaux reçus (12, 112, 18, 118, 32, 132, 62), on calcule ensuite des paramètres de collision en se basant sur des données de référence stockées en mémoire, puis on vérifie si les paramètres si les paramètres de collision sont annonciateurs d'une collision avec le piéton. Dans l'affirmative, le procédé consiste alors à produire des instructions de commande (24, 124) activant un dispositif de protection contre les chocs (26, 126) tenant compte des paramètres de collision calculés. L'airbag peut ainsi être déclenché en fonction du type de choc qui va se produire, offrant ainsi aux piétons une protection améliorée.
