(EN)Disclosed are novel live bacterial vaccines against E. coli O157:H7, to treat or prevent colonization of the gastrointestinal tract of a vertebrate by the pathogen. The vaccines comprise an effective amount of non-pathogenic bacteria naturally expressing the O157 antigen or a structural mimic thereof as a part of their lipopolysaccharide. In a preferred embodiment, the non-pathogenic bacteria are selected from bacterial strains of the genus Salmonella or Citrobacter. The vaccines of the invention are particularly useful in maintaining cattle herds free of E. coli O157:H7 and in reducing carriage and fecal shedding of E. coli O157:H7 prior to slaughter, thus potentially reducing the clin ical incidence of E. coli O157:H7infections in humans.
(FR)L'invention concerne de nouveaux vaccins bactériens vivants contre E.coli O157 :H7 afin de traiter ou d'empêcher la colonisation des voies gastro-intestinales d'un vertébré par le pathogène. Ces vaccins contiennent une quantité efficace de bactéries non pathogènes exprimant naturellement l'antigène anti-O157 ou un de ses mimétiques structurels en tant que partie de leur lipopolysaccharide. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, ces bactéries non pathogènes sont sélectionnées dans des souches bactériennes de Salmonella ou Citrobacter. Ces vaccins sont particulièrement utiles pour protéger des troupeaux de bétail contre E.coli O157 :H7 et pour limiter le transport et la dissémination fécale de E.coli O157 :H7 avant l'abattage, ce qui diminue potentiellement l'incidence clinique des infections par E.coli O157 :H7 chez l'homme.
