Abstract
(EN) A picture-in-guide generator has an output adapted to drive a television monitor and an input adapted to receive a television signal. A display generator feeds drive signals to the output synchronized to the television monitor. EPG information is extracted from the television signal and stored in memory. The number of pixels used to represent the television signal is reduced. The reduced number of pixels television signal is stored in memory. The EPG data and the television signal are retrieved from memory and stored in the display generator. The EPG data and the television signal are fed from the display generator to the output in a continuous data stream ordered to produce a picture-in-guide display on the monitor. The picture-in-guide generator is implemented on a single integrated circuit chip along with the circuitry generating the graphics. The addition of a digital tuner to the PIG generator chip allows the PIG generator to capture VBI data at any time whether the viewer is watching the television or not.
(FR) L'invention concerne un générateur d'image de guide comprenant une sortie destinée à la commande d'un moniteur de télévision ainsi qu'une entrée conçue pour recevoir un signal de télévision. Un générateur d'affichage envoie des signaux de commande vers la sortie en synchronisation avec le moniteur de télévision. Des informations EPG issues du signal de télévision sont stockées dans une mémoire. Le nombre de pixels utilisés pour représenter le signal de télévision est réduit. Le signal de télévision à nombre de pixels réduit est stocké dans la mémoire. Les données EPG et le signal de télévision sont récupérés à partir de la mémoire puis stockés dans le générateur d'affichage. Ces données EPG et ce signal de télévision sont envoyés depuis le générateur d'affichage vers la sortie dans un flux de données continu destiné à produire un affichage d'image de guide sur le moniteur. Le générateur d'image de guide est fonctionne avec une puce à circuit intégré unique parallèlement aux circuits produisant les éléments graphiques. L'ajout d'un syntoniseur numérique au générateur d'image de guide permet à ce générateur de capturer des données IST à tout moment, que le téléspectateur regarde la télévision ou non.
