Abstract
(EN) A method, a computer system and a computer programme product for a computer system for transforming general On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) hierarchies into summarisable hierarchies whereby pre-aggregation is disclosed, by which fast query response times for aggregation queries without excessive storage use is made possible even when the hierarchies originally are irregular. Pre-aggregation is essential for ensuring adequate response time during data analysis. Most OLAP systems adopt the practical pre-aggregation approach, as opposed to full pre-aggregation, of materialising only select combinations of aggregates and then re-use these for efficiently computing other aggregates. However, this re-use of aggregates is contingent on the dimension hierarchies and the relationships between facts and dimensions satisfying stringent constraints. The present invention significantly extends the scope of practical pre-aggregation by transforming irregulare dimension hierarchies and fact-dimension relationships into well-behaved structures that enable practical pre-aggregation.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un procédé, un système d'ordinateur et un produit logiciel destinés à transformer des hiérarchies OLAP en hiérarchies résumées, dans lequel une pré-agrégation est permise, et par lequel on peut obtenir des temps de réponse rapide de requête, pour des requêtes d'agrégation, sans une utilisation de stockage excessive, même lorsque les hiérarchies de départ sont irrégulières. Une pré-agrégation est essentielle afin d'assurer un temps de réponse adéquat durant l'analyse de données. La plupart des systèmes OLAP adoptent l'approche pré-agrégation pratique, par opposition à la pré-agrégation complète, de matérialiser seulement des combinaisons choisies d'agrégats et de les réutiliser afin de calculer efficacement d'autres agrégats. Cependant, cette réutilisation d'agrégats repose sur les hiérarchies de dimension et les relations entre des faits et des dimensions satisfaisant des contraintes rigoureuses. La présente invention permet d'étendre considérablement la portée de la pré-agrégation pratique en transformant des hiérarchies de dimension irrégulière et des relations fait-dimension en structures normales permettant la pré-agrégation pratique.
