(EN)A method for distinguishing between a bacterial infection and a viral infection in a sample taken from a subject is described. The method comprises measuring the level of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) associated with the sample and establishing thereby whether the subject is suffering from a bacterial or viral infection. A test kit for use in the method comprises an agent which causes the release of ATP from bacteria and an ATP assay reagent(s).
(FR)L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de différencier une infection bactérienne d'une infection virale, et ce à partir d'un échantillon prélevé sur un sujet. Ce procédé consiste à mesurer le niveau d'adénosine triphosphate (ATP) associé à cet échantillon, puis à déterminer, selon ce niveau, si le sujet est atteint d'une infection bactérienne ou virale. Cette invention concerne également un kit destiné à être utilisé selon ce procédé, ce kit comprenant notamment un agent qui permet de libérer l'ATP des bactéries, ainsi qu'un ou plusieurs réactifs d'analyse de l'ATP.
