Abstract:
(EN) A technique for efficiently using media-type identifier code (40) on print media (24) and for processing that code, once read, to select the appropriate print mode (34) for a printer (20) that is to print onto that media. The system of the present invention minimizes the number of bits of data that must be associated with (hence, marked on) a sheet of print media to convey adequately the information as to the type of media (44), and is inherently backwards compatible. The invention uses simplified encoding and algorithm processing, which, in a preferred embodiment, includes a look-up table (32) for storing known media-type code with associated print modes. A distance algorithm is used for locating the most appropriate print mode for given media-type identifier code that is not found in the table.
(FR) L'invention concerne une technique permettant d'utiliser efficacement un code d'identificateur (40) du type de support sur des supports d'impression (24) et de traiter ce code, une fois lu, de manière à sélectionner le mode d'impression adéquat (34) d'une imprimante (20) qui est sur le point d'imprimer sur ce support. Le système de la présente invention minimise le nombre de bits de données qui doivent être associés à (donc, marqués sur) une feuille de support d'impression, afin d'acheminer convenablement les informations en fonction du type de support (44), et il est intrinsèquement compatible vers l'arrière. Cette invention utilise un processus d'algorithme de codage simplifié, qui, dans un mode de réalisation préféré, comprend une table de conversion (32) servant à stocker un code du type de support avec des modes d'impression associés. Un algorithme de distance est utilisé pour localiser le mode d'impression le plus approprié pour un code d'identificateur donné de type de support qui n'est pas dans la table.
