(EN)Novel phthalocyanine compounds which have absorption in a near-infrared region of from 700 to 1,000 nm and reduced absorption in the visible region and hence are suitable for use in a near-infrared absorption filter for plasma displays, a secret ink, etc. The compounds are represented by general formula (I). The near infrared absorbent is characterized by comprising any of the compounds. (In the formula, R¿1? to R¿8? each represents alkyl or alkoxyalkyl; X¿1? to X¿8? each represents sulfur or $m(g)NR¿9?, provided that X¿1?, one of X¿3? and X¿4?, one of X¿5? and X¿6?, and one of X¿7? and X¿8? each is sulfur and that X¿2?, the other of X¿3? and X¿4?, the other of X¿5? and X¿6?, and the other of X¿7? and X¿8? each is $m(g)NR¿9?; R¿9? represents optionally substituted acyl or optionally substituted aroyl; and M represents two hydrogen atoms, a divalent metal, or a derivative of a trivalent or tetravalent metal).

L'absorbant du proche infrarouge est caractérisé en ce qu'il renferme n'importe lequel des composés.
