A microwave device and corresponding method for cutting, and especially drilling into, a solid body of non-conductive material employ a microwave source which provides microwave radiation, typically through a waveguide, to a concentrator. The concentrator is configured to concentrate the microwave radiation onto a small region of solid body, thereby generating sufficient heat in that region to liquefy a volume of the material to form a hole. The device and method may be used to perform various drilling, cutting, nailing, joining and welding operations on a wide range of dielectric materials including ceramics, concrete and stone.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif à micro-ondes, et son procédé correspondant, permettant de couper et, particulièrement, de percer un corps solide fait d'une matière non conductrice. Ledit dispositif comprend une source de micro-ondes émettant des micro-ondes vers un concentrateur, généralement par l'intermédiaire d'un guide d'ondes. Le concentrateur est configuré de manière à concentrer l'émission de micro-ondes sur une zone réduite du corps solide, produisant ainsi suffisamment de chaleur dans cette zone pour liquéfier une partie de la matière de façon à former un trou. Le dispositif et le procédé peuvent s'utiliser pour effectuer diverses opérations de perçage, de coupage, de clouage, d'assemblage et de soudage sur une large gamme de matières diélectriques, y compris la céramique, le béton et la pierre.
