A digital image processing method and apparatus corrects geometrical distortions in digital images. The method includes the calibration of the camera by choosing a test pattern and manually adjusting the distortion correction factor of the camera until the image appears to be undistorted. A real image is then captured by the camera grid. The camera grid is then distorted by the same distortion factor such that the image is corrected, but the image contour is deformed. Based on the distortion correction factor, a respective location in the camera grid is determined for each pixel in a display window. An intensity value to each pixel in the display window is assigned based on one or more pixels in the camera grid indicated by the location. The points for mapping camera values to the display window need to be determined only once for a given image size. All subsequent distorted images having the same size are corrected using interpolation and pre-compiled points.

L'invention concerne une technique et un dispositif de traitement numérique d'images permettant de corriger les distorsions géométriques d'images numériques. Cette technique consiste à calibrer la caméra en choisissant un motif test et en ajustant manuellement le facteur de correction des distorsions de la caméra jusqu'à ce que l'image apparaisse sans distorsions. Une image réelle est ensuite capturée par la grille de la caméra qui subit ensuite une distorsion de même facteur de distorsion, ce qui a pour effet de corriger l'image mais d'en déformer le contour. Pour chaque pixel d'une fenêtre d'affichage, on détermine son emplacement respectif dans la grille de la camera en fonction du facteur de correction des distorsions. On affecte ensuite une valeur d'intensité à chaque pixel de la fenêtre d'affichage en fonction d'un ou plusieurs pixels dans la grille de la caméra désignés selon leur emplacement. Pour une taille d'image donnée, les points nécessaires au mappage des valeurs de la caméra dans la fenêtre d'affichage ne doivent être déterminés qu'une seule fois. Toute image ayant les mêmes dimensions est corrigée à l'aide de points d'interpolation et de points pré-compilés.
