The present invention balances the amplitude and phase of a received QPSK signal that may have been corrupted during transmission. The system determines the amplitude of the $i(I) and $i(Q) symbols of a received signal, compares them, and applies a correction to one or both channels to correct for amplitude imbalance. For phase imbalance, the system calculates the cross-correlation of the $i(I) and $i(Q) symbols which should average to zero. A correction factor is derived from the cross-correlation and applied to both channels, returning the phase cross-correlation to zero. The output from the system is a signal corrected in both amplitude and phase.

Cette invention permet d'équilibrer l'amplitude et la phase d'un signal QPSK ayant pu être altéré pendant la transmission. Le système utilisé à cet effet détermine l'amplitude des symboles $i(I) et $i(Q) d'un signal reçu, compare ces amplitudes et applique une correction à l'un et/ou l'autre des canaux, en vue de corriger le déséquilibre d'amplitude. Pour le déséquilibre de phase, le système calcule la corrélation croisée des symboles $i(I) et $i(Q) dont la moyenne devrait être égale à zéro. Un facteur de correction est dérivé de cette corrélation croisée et appliqué aux deux canaux, ramenant à zéro la corrélation croisée de la phase. Le signal de sortie produit par le système est un signal corrigé à la fois en amplitude et en phase.
