A method and system for teaching a language and evaluating language comprehension in a digitally synthesized, interactive three-dimensional graphical representation of an environment. Within the environment, the user is given opportunities to practice language skills by interacting with digital videos of people. As the user walks through the environment and encounters various people therein, the people set forth challenges in the form of scripted questions and tasks that require the user to comprehend the language in order to correctly respond. A speech recognition engine interprets verbal responses of the user, thereby further simulating a real-world environment. A set of one or more scripts controls various aspects of the environment while testing and evaluating the user's comprehension of the language.

Procédé et système servant à enseigner une langue et à évaluer la compréhension d'une langue dans une représentation graphique tridimensionnelle interactive synthétisée numériquement d'un environnement. A l'intérieur de cet environnement, l'utilisateur reçoit des opportunités de pratiquer ses aptitudes linguistiques par interaction avec des vidéos numériques représentant des personnes. Ces dernières lancent des défis sous forme de questions scriptées et de tâches nécessitant que l'utilisateur comprenne la langue, de manière à répondre correctement, simultanément au déplacement de cet utilisateur à travers l'environnement et à sa rencontre avec différentes personnes. Un moteur de reconnaissance vocale interprètes les réponses verbales de l'utilisateur, ce qui permet de continuer à simuler un environnement réel. Un ensemble d'un ou plusieurs scripts contrôle différents aspects de l'environnement, tout en testant et en évaluant la compréhension que possède l'utilisateur de la langue.
