Abstract

A fast-response colorimetric carbon dioxide indicator device which is substantially insensitive to humidity and comprises a chemically inert substrate and an indicator composition supported by the substrate and responsive to exposure to carbon dioxide in expired respiratory air to undergo a colour changing reaction. The indicator composition includes a pH sensitive dye and a basic substance having general formula (1) in which X is a nitrogen or phosphorus atom, each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is an alkyl, Y- is an anion selected from the group consisting of hydroxide, fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, carbonate, and tetrafluoroborate, at least one of the alkyls R1, R2, R3 and R4 having at least 13 carbon atoms and at least one of the other alkyls having from 6 to 8 carbon atoms, the remaining alkyls, if any, having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.

L'invention porte sur un colorimètre, à réponse rapide, indiquant la teneur en dioxyde de carbone. Ce dispositif est pratiquement insensible à l'humidité et comprend un substrat chimiquement inerte et une composition indicatrice supportée par le substrat et réagissant à l'exposition au dioxyde de carbone contenu dans l'air expiré de façon à subir une réaction de changement de couleur. La composition indicatrice comprend une couleur sensible au pH et une substance basique ayant la formule générale (1) dans laquelle X est un atome d'azote ou de phosphore, chaque R1, R2, R3 et R4 est un alkyle, Y- est un anion sélectionné dans le groupe comprenant un hydroxyde, un fluorure, un chlorure, un bromure, un iodure, un carbonate et un tétrafluoroborate, au moins un des alkyles R1, R2, R3 et R4 possédant au moins 13 atomes et au moins un des autres alkyles possédant de 6 à 8 atomes de carbone, les alkyles restants, s'il y a, possédant de 1 à 12 atomes de carbone.
