A speed reducer for a mixing apparatus having a gear train mounted within a housing (10) such that the output shaft (9) is supported by upper and lower bearings (36, 38) mounted within the upper portion and base of the housing (10), respectively. The lower output shaft bearing (38) preferably is mounted within a recess in the underside of the housing base below a dry well (22) containing the output shaft (9). The dry well (22) forms a lubricant sump within the housing and preferably is unitary with the housing base. By placing the output shaft bearing (38) below the dry well (22) in the base of the housing, the diameter of the bearing can be increased to bear larger loads without being restricted by the dry well and is better able to transmit bending and radial loads to a relatively massive portion of the housing, and is placed closer to the load, thereby minimizing the amount of unsupported output shaft projecting from the reducer.

L'invention concerne un réducteur de vitesse utilisé dans un mélangeur possédant un train d'engrenages monté à l'intérieur d'un corps (10) de façon que l'arbre (9) de sortie s'appuie sur un roulement (36) supérieur et sur un roulement (38) inférieur placés, respectivement, dans la partie supérieure et la base du corps (10). Le roulement (38) d'arbre de sortie inférieur est, de préférence, monté à l'intérieur d'un évidement situé dans la face inférieure de la base du corps, sous une enceinte (22) sèche contenant l'arbre (9) de sortie. L'enceinte (22) sèche forme un bac lubrifiant à l'intérieur du corps et est, de préférence, solidaire de la base du corps. En plaçant le roulement (38) d'arbre de sortie sous l'enceinte (22) sèche et dans la base du corps, on peut augmenter le diamètre du roulement afin que ce dernier supporte des charges plus importantes sans être restreint par l'enceinte sèche, afin qu'il soit plus apte à transmettre des charges de flexion et des charges radiales à une partie relativement importante du corps et qu'il soit placé plus près de la charge, réduisant ainsi la partie d'arbre de sortie non appuyée dépassant du réducteur de vitesse.
