An adapter plate (26) is connected to a load cell (22) and provides radially aligned slots (34) in a recessed platform (35) to allow the plate (26) to engage and lock with studs (30) that are connected to the supporting base (24) when the load cell (14) is rotated about its vertical axis. The studs (30) have a shoulder (44) that is larger than the barrel and a head (42) that is larger than the shoulder (44) which results in a mechanical locking between the plate slots (34) and the studs (30) upon rotation of the plate (26) with respect to the stationary studs (30). A quick release detent pin (71) passes through aligned passages (50, 38, 70) in the lower load cell element, adapter plate (26) and supporting base (24) to prevent rotation of the load cell (22) with respect to the horizontal axis of the base after connection is achieved.
