A fitting gear (110) for assisting in the alignment of metal plates (118 and 126) so that the edges thereof can be welded together includes an inverted substantially U-shaped electromagnet (112) which, when energized, is adapted to be secured to the upper surface (116) of one of the plates (118) adjacent an edge thereof. A wedge-shaped tapered pin (114) is forced into the U and contacts the upper surface (124) of the other plate (126) to move the edges into substantial alignment with each other.

Cette invention concerne un matériel d'ajustage (110) qui facilite l'alignement de tôles de métal (118 et 126) avant soudage l'une à l'autre. Ce matériel comprend un électro-aimant en U inversé (112) qui, lorsqu'il est alimenté en courant, vient se fixer sur la surface supérieure (116) de l'une des tôles (118), contre son bord. Une goupille biseautée en forme de coin (114) est introduite à force dans le U et entre en contact avec la surface supérieure (124) de l'autre tôle (126), ce qui a pour effet d'aligner sensiblement les bords l'un sur l'autre.
