The present invention is a method and apparatus that uses microwave energy to produce highly active forms of oxidizing compounds that react with nitric oxide and other lower valence components in gaseous streams to form compounds that can be readily removed by conventional pollution abatement processes. An oxidation chamber is used to simultaneously expose the oxidizing compound to microwave energy and contact it with the gaseous stream. The present invention provides a reliable, cost effective means of oxidizing pollutants into forms that can be effectively removed using existing pollution abatement devices.

Cette invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif qui, à partir de l'énergie micro-onde, permettent d'obtenir des formes hautement actives de composés oxydants qui réagissent avec le monoxyde d'azote et autres éléments à faible valence dans des flux gazeux pour former des composés susceptibles d'être facilement extraits par des procédés de dépollution classiques. On utilise une chambre d'oxydation pour, simultanément, exposer le composé oxydant à une énergie micro-onde et pour le mettre en contact avec un flux gazeux. La présente invention concerne des moyens fiables et rentables permettant d'oxyder des polluants et de les transformer en substances qui peuvent être extraites facilement au moyen de procédés de dépollution existants.
