Abstract

Apparatus and method for external medical treatment of the oral cavity with the aid of light. The apparatus includes a light-emitting device (1), which is intended to be held against or in the close proximity of the patient's body, and means (8, 9, 10) for driving the light-emitting device. The light-emitting device includes light-emitting diodes (3, 4) or corresponding elements adapted to emit infrared (IR) light. The drive means (8, 9, 10) includes a computer (8) and circuits (9, 10) for driving the light-emitting diodes (3, 4), wherein the computer (8) is adapted to deliver electric signals to the drive circuits (9, 10). The drive means (8, 9, 10) is adapted to cause the light-emitting device (1) to emit infrared light in accordance with a series of pulse repetition frequencies. First, light that has a pulse repetition frequency of about 7.8 Hz is emitted and followed by light that has a pulse repetition frequency of about 287 Hz which is followed by light that has a pulse repetition frequency of about 31.2 Hz.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé qui mettent en oeuvre une lumière pour réaliser un traitement médical externe de la cavité buccale. L'appareil inclut un dispositif électroluminescent (1) destiné à être maintenu contre le corps du patient ou au voisinage immédiat du corps du patient, et un moyen (8, 9, 10) pour commander le dispositif électroluminescent. Le dispositif électroluminescent comprend des diodes électroluminescentes (3, 4) ou des éléments analogues conçus pour émettre une lumière infrarouge. Le moyen de commande (8, 9, 10) inclut un ordinateur (8) et des circuits (9, 10) pour commander les diodes électroluminescentes (3, 4). L'ordinateur (8) est adapté pour transmettre des signaux électriques aux circuits de commande (9, 10). Le moyen de commande (8, 9, 10) est adapté pour amener le dispositif électroluminescent (1) à émettre une lumière infrarouge en réponse à une série de fréquences de répétition des impulsions. Dans un premier temps, la lumière présentant une fréquence de répétition des impulsions d'environ 7,8 Hz est émise; elle est suivie de la lumière présentant une fréquence de répétition des impulsions d'environ 287 Hz, puis de la lumière présentant une fréquence de répétition des impulsions d'environ 31,2 Hz.
