A method and apparatus for concatenating data packets in a communication protocol is described, wherein a connection to be used for concatenation is allocated to a memory region based on which data packets received from said connection are stored in order to be concatenated. Furthermore, an activity information of the connection is provided, wherein the allocation of the connection is changed on the basis of the activity information. Thus, a cache of connections which are deemed suitable for concatenation can be managed by shifting and cancelling the memory regions allocated to the connections so that active connections which actually utilize concatenation are kept in the cache, while other connections which do not need the concatenation feature are purged from the cache. Thereby, a restriction can be placed on the number of connections that can take advantage of the concatenation, so as to limit the overhead produced by the concatenation feature.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de concaténation de paquets de données dans un protocole de communication dans lesquels une connexion à utiliser pour la concaténation est affectée à une région de mémoire sur la base de laquelle des paquets de données reçus de ladite connexion sont mémorisés afin d'être concaténés. De plus, une information d'activité de la connexion est fournie, de manière à changer l'affectation de la connexion sur la base de l'information d'activité. Ainsi, une antémémoire de connexions lesquelles sont estimées aptes à une concaténation peut être gérée par décalage et suppression des régions de mémoire affectées aux connexions, de manière que les connexions actives utilisant effectivement la concaténation soient maintenues dans l'antémémoire, alors que d'autres connexions ne nécessitant pas la caractéristique de concaténation sont éliminées de l'antémémoire. Ainsi, on peut imposer une restriction sur le nombre de connexions pouvant tirer avantage de la concaténation, de manière à limiter le trafic de service généré par la caractéristique de concaténation.
