A system for providing and managing IP telephone calls establishes separate and distinct call legs between IP-capable appliances (29, 31) and routers (19, 21, 23) and between routers, and creates calls, changes calls, and manages telephony functions by joining and disjoining calls legs. In some instances one or more call legs disjoined from an active call are maintained as established to be joined later to other call legs to create other active calls. By managing IP calls as separate and distinct legs functions of intelligent, connection-oriented telephony networks may be simulated in IP telephony systems. The management is provided by software running on processors coupled to routers in the IP network.

Selon cette invention, un système de mise en place et de gestion d'appels téléphoniques IP établit des demi-appels séparés et distincts entre les dispositifs à capacité IP ( (29, 31) et les routeurs (19, 21, 23) et entre les routeurs eux-mêmes; ce système crée et modifie des appels et gère les fonctions de téléphonie et connectant et en déconnectant des demi-appels. Dans certains cas, un ou plusieurs demi-appels déconnectés d'un appel actif sont maintenus tels qu'ils ont été établis; ils seront connectés ultérieurement à d'autres demi-appels pour créer d'autres appels actifs. En gérant les appels IP en tant que demi-appels séparés et distincts, on arrive à simuler les fonctions de réseaux téléphoniques intelligents en mode connexion dans des systèmes téléphoniques IP. On effectue la gestion en faisant tourner un logiciel dans des processeurs couplés aux routeurs dans des réseaux IP.
