Abstract

A wireless local area network(LAN) comprises a primary station(PS) having a radio transceiving means and a plurality of secondary stations(SS) each secondary station having radio transceiving means. The primary station operates in accordance with a time division protocol comprising a plurality of concatenated frames. A predetermined number of the concatenated frames comprise a superframe which further includes a time slot(HiRBS). In response to the transmission of a system wide clock cycle synchronisation signal the primary station initiates the transmission of a superframe and a secondary station(HN) wishing to join the LAN but unable to communicate directly with the primary station transmits a signal burst in the time slot for reception by a secondary station(FN) which is in range of the primary station, the secondary station(FN) acting as a relay station for the out-of-range secondary station(HN) during its registration with the LAN. The time slot(HiRBS) may be located in front of the first frame or within the first frame of the superframe.

L'invention concerne un réseau local sans fil (LAN) comprenant une station primaire (PS) munie d'un organe d'émission-réception radioélectrique, et une pluralité de stations secondaires (SS), chacune d'entre elles comportant un organe d'émission-réception radioélectrique. La station primaire fonctionne conformément à un protocole temporel comprenant une pluralité de trames en chaîne, un nombre prédéterminé de ces trames en chaîne incluant une supertrame qui contient elle-même un intervalle de temps (HiRBS). En réponse à l'émission d'un signal de synchronisation de cycle d'horloge étendu du système, la station primaire lance l'émission d'une supertrame, une station secondaire (HN) désirant être reliée au réseau LAN mais ne pouvant communiquer directement avec cette station primaire émettant une rafale de signaux dans l'intervalle de temps, à destination d'une station secondaire (FN) qui se trouve dans la portée de ladite station primaire, cette station secondaire (FN) faisant office de station-relais pour la station secondaire (HN) qui se trouve hors de portée au moment de son enregistrement auprès dudit réseau LAN. L'intervalle de temps (HiRBS) peut se situer en avant ou à l'intérieur de la première trame de la supertrame.
