The invention concerns a long distance optical transmission system comprising transmitting means (1) and pulse receiving means (2) and an optical line (3) extending between said transmission and reception means and comprising alternating sections (3a, 3b) of sign dispersion fibres with opposite chromatic dispersion, and a plurality of amplifiers (4). The invention is characterised in that the optical line includes several pairs of sign dispersion fibre sections with opposite chromatic dispersion between two amplifiers, and the cumulated dispersion C of the majority of the sections of the optical line verifies the relationship |C| $g(D)$g(n)2$m(f)0.3 wherein C is expressed in ps/nm and wherein $g(D)$g(n) is the spectral value at mid-height of the pulses expressed in THz.

Système de transmission optique longue distance comportant des moyens d'émission (1) et de réception d'impulsions (2) et une ligne optique (3) qui s'étend entre lesdits moyens d'émission et de réception et qui comprend une alternance de tronçons (3a, 3b) de fibres dispersives de signes de dispersion chromatique opposés, ainsi qu'une pluralité d'amplificateurs (4), caractérisé en ce que la ligne optique comporte plusieurs couples de tronçons de fibres dispersives de signes de dispersion chromatique oppposés entre deux amplificateurs, et en ce que la dispersion cumulée C de la majorité des tronçons de la ligne optique vérifie la relation |C|$g(D)v2$m(f)0.3, où C est exprimée en ps/nm et où $g(D)v est la valeur spectrale à mi-hauteur des impulsions exprimée en THz.
