The invention concerns a fuel cell electrode with solid polymer electrolyte comprising in its active layer at least two distinct domains: one is in particular the site of electronic transfer electrochemical reactions, the other serves only for ionic conduction. Said novel electrode structure for fuel cell with solid electrolyte polymer is designed the current density levels at the electrodes by increasing the thickness of the efficient part of their active layer. To achieve this, the ionic conduction in the active layer thickness is reinforced by adding, in specific content, impregnated fibres of the ionic conductor. Moreover, conditions are produced such that the surfaces comprising the platinum sites are coated with a film, uniform if possible, whereof the thickness should not exceed a predetermined value. Finally, it is optionally advantageous to place in the active layer micro-tubes which will promote the transfer of gas phases.

Electrode pour pile à combustible à électrolyte solide polymère comportant dans sa couche active au moins deux domaines distincts: l'un est notamment le siège des réactions électrochimiques de transfert électronique, l'autre est dévolu seulement à la conduction ionique. Cette nouvelle structure d'électrode pour pile à combustible à électrolyte solide polymère a pour but d'accroître les densités de courant aux électrodes en accroissant l'épaisseur de la partie efficace de leur couche active. Pour cela on renforce la conduction ionique dans l'épaisseur de la couche active par l'ajout, en teneur définie, de fibres imprégnées du conducteur ionique. De plus, on réalise des conditions telles que les surfaces comportant des sites de platine soient revêtues d'un film, si possible, uniforme, dont l'épaisseur ne doit pas excéder une valeur qui a été définie. Enfin, il est éventuellement avantageux de placer dans la couche active des microtubes qui favoriseront le transfert des phases gazeuses.
