A method of testing a jointed high-voltage cable involves establishing a condition in which at least one joint interrupts the metallic return conductor of the cable without interrupting the dielectric screen (3). Test voltage is applied between the cable conductor and return conductor (4), and an instrument (8) sensitive to frequencies above 2MHz is used to observe whether partial discharges are occurring. The method succeeds because the semiconducting dielectric screen is virtually insulating at these frequencies, and avoids the need to strip bands of the dielectric screen (and subsequently reinstate them without facility for testing quality of reinstatement). A joint in the jointed cable is tested by applying a metallic electrode around the joint area (but spaced sufficiently from the metallic return conductor of the adjacent cable length(s)) and connecting the RF test instrument between that electrode (7) and earth.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de contrôler un câble haute tension comprenant des raccords. Ce procédé comprend les étapes suivantes :on établit une condition dans laquelle au moins un raccord interrompt le conducteur métallique de retour du câble sans interrompre le blindage (3) diélectrique. On applique une tension d'essai entre le conducteur et le conducteur (4) de retour du câble, et on utilise un instrument (8) sensible aux fréquences supérieures à 2MHz pour vérifier si des décharges partielles se produisent. Ce procédé repose sur le fait que le blindage diélectrique semiconducteur est pratiquement isolant à ces fréquences et permet d'éviter le démontage des bandes de blindage diélectrique (et leur remontage subséquent en l'absence moyens permettant de vérifier la qualité du remontage). On contrôle les raccords du câble en appliquant une électrode (7) métallique autour de la région du raccord (en prenant garde de l'espacer suffisamment du conducteur métallique de retour de la section ou des sections de câble adjacente(s)) et en branchant l'instrument de vérification H.F. entre cette électrode et la terre.
