A formation fluid analysis tool has a sampling probe that is inserted into the formation for extracting formation fluid and a sample chamber wherein said fluid is measured. The chamber contains an internal reflectance crystal in contact with formation fluid. An acousto-optical tunable filter (AOTF) transmits a single wavelength of light from a broadband light source. This monochromatic light is carried by an optic fiber to the internal reflectance crystal where it undergoes total reflection at the crystal faces in contact with the formation fluid. The reflected light carries information about this absorption, which is determined by the chemical composition of the fluid. A return fiber conveys the reflected light back to a spectrometer, and a processor determines the absorption at the wavelength of the monochromatic light.

L'invention concerne un instrument optique équipé d'une sonde d'échantillonnage introduite dans une formation en vue d'extraire un échantillon de fluide de cette formation, et comportant par ailleurs une chambre à échantillons qui permet d'analyser le fluide. Ladite chambre contient un cristal à réflectance interne, qui est en contact avec le fluide. Un filtre acoustico-optique réglable transmet une longueur d'onde unique de lumière émise par une source lumineuse à large bande. Cette lumière monochromatique est acheminée par une fibre optique vers le cristal susmentionné, où elle est totalement réfléchie au niveau des faces du cristal qui sont en contact avec le fluide analysé. La lumière réfléchie véhicule des informations concernant cette absorption, qui est déterminée par la composition chimique du fluide. Une fibre de retour ramène la lumière réfléchie à un spectromètre, et un processeur détermine le taux d'absorption à la longueur d'onde de la lumière monochromatique.
