A tape measure capable of operating easily and locking a pulled-out measurement tape by applying a brake to a take-up drum using a single part, wherein a lock piece (8) is installed in front of an operating member (7) having a knob (4) and a brake piece (9) is installed at the rear of it, normally a measurement tape (5) can be pulled out freely and the pulled-out tape is unwound by a spring not shown, when the knob (4) is pressed at the time of unwinding, the brake piece (9) is brought into contact with the peripheral edge of the take-up drum (6) so as to apply brake and, when the knob (4) is moved forward with the measurement tape pulled out, the lock piece (8) presses the measurement tape (5) against a support part (18) so as to hold the measurement tape (5) under the pulled-out condition.
