A telephone sterilization apparatus and method having ultraviolet sterilization of the mouthpiece and earpiece of a telephone handset. The invention has an ultraviolet source within the earpiece and mouthpiece cradles of a telephone handset cradle. The telephone handset engages a seal around the earpiece and mouthpiece which blocks UV illumination from a user and seals in ozone gas that is produced by UV source below 200nm. The UV source illuminated the earpiece and mouthpiece of a telephone handset when the handset is in telephone handset cradle. When in the telephone handset cradle, the handset engages a switch, which signals a timer/power circuit, which provides a timed application of power to the UV source(s). The duty cycle of the UV source is timed for substantially complete sterilization of the telephone handset. Minute amounts of ozone gas surround the earpiece and mouthpiece of the telephone handset providing more complete sterilization.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de stérilisation d'un téléphone, le procédé de cette invention consistant à stériliser aux ultraviolets le microphone et l'écouteur d'un combiné téléphonique, une source d'ultraviolets étant par ailleurs placée dans les supports pour microphone et écouteur d'un support à combiné. Le combiné téléphonique est destiné à entrer en contact avec un joint placé autour desdits écouteur et microphone de manière à bloquer le rayonnement ultraviolet provenant d'un utilisateur et à enfermer hermétiquement l'ozone produit par ladite source d'ultraviolets en-deçà de 200nm, cette source d'ultraviolets étant destinée à éclairer l'écouteur et le microphone dudit combiné téléphonique une fois ce dernier mis dans le support à combiné. Ainsi placé, ce combiné entre alors en contact avec un commutateur qui émet un signal vers un circuit de temporisation/de puissance permettant une application temporisée de puissance à la(aux) source(s) d'ultraviolets. Le taux d'utilisation de cette source d'ultraviolets est calculé de manière à permettre une stérilisation sensiblement totale dudit combiné téléphonique, une faible teneur en ozone entourant l'écouteur et le microphone de ce combiné afin d'assurer une stérilisation complète.
