A distributed block-based programming model for control applications such as multimedia based real-time applications is described. According to one aspect of the invention, user program specifies interconnections between a plurality of program blocks distributed across a plurality of processing nodes. The user program is automatically translated into a system-level program having a program fragment for each one of the processing nodes. Each one of the program fragments comprise the program blocks located on the processing node and one or more system-level blocks for establishing connections between the processing node and a different processing node across a network.

L'invention concerne un modèle distribué de programmation procédant bloc par bloc, conçu pour des applications de commande telles que les applications multimédia temps réel. Selon un mode de réalisation de cette invention, le programme utilisateur spécifie des interconnexions entre une pluralité de blocs de programmes distribués sur plusieurs noeuds de traitement. Ce programme utilisateur est automatiquement traduit en un programme niveau-système disposant d'un fragment de programme pour chacun des noeuds de traitement. Chacun des fragments de programme comprend les blocs de programme situés sur le noeud de traitement et au moins un bloc niveau-système permettant d'établir dans le réseau des connexions entre le noeud de traitement et un autre noeud de traitement.
