A device for selecting an ML (Maximum Likelihood) state in a decoding device comprising a plurality of cells arranged in a matrix of rows and columns, and a plurality of select lines. In the device, each select line is connected to all cells in a corresponding row, the select lines receive associated path select signals, each cell in a column is connected to cells in an immediately preceding column so that the cell receives a plurality of state values according to a trellis structure of the decoding device, each cell in a first column receives a plurality of state values determined according to the trellis structure of an encoder, said each first column cell selects one of the received state values in response to the select signal to store the selected state value, and cells in the last column output a state value corresponding to the ML state.

L'invention concerne un dispositif permettant de sélectionner un état de vraisemblance maximale dans un décodeur. Ce dispositif comprend une pluralité de cellules disposées dans une matrice formant des rangées et des colonnes, et une pluralité de lignes de sélection. Chaque ligne de sélection est connectée à toutes les cellules de la rangée correspondante. Les lignes de sélection reçoivent des signaux de sélection de trajectoire associés, et chaque cellule d'une colonnes est connectée aux cellules de la colonne immédiatement précédente de manière que cette cellule reçoit une pluralité de valeurs d'état déterminées en fonction de la structure en treillis d'un codeur. Chaque cellule de la première colonne sélectionne une des valeurs d'état reçues en réponse au signal de sélection et mémorise cette valeur d'état, et les cellules de la dernière colonne sortent une valeur d'état correspondant à l'état de vraisemblance maximale.
