A method is provided for loading a packed floating-point operand into a register file entry having one or more associated implicit bits. The packed floating point operand includes multiple component operands. Significand and exponent bits for each component operand are copied to corresponding fields of the register entry, and the exponent bits are tested to determine whether the component operand is normalized. An implicit bit corresponding to the component operand is set when the component operand is normalized.

Le procédé de l'invention consiste à charger un opérande condensé, à virgule flottante, dans une entrée de fichier registre auquel est associé au moins un binaire implicite, cet opérande comprenant plusieurs opérandes de composant, puis à copier, dans les champs correspondants de l'entrée du registre, des binaires de significande et d'exposant, pour chaque opérande de composant, les binaires d'exposant étant testés de manière qu'il soit déterminé si l'opérande de composant est normalisé, et enfin à régler la valeur d'un binaire implicite correspondant à l'opérande de composant lorsque cet opérande est normalisé.
