A method of forming a package of an optical waveguide (8) and optical fibers (3). The optical fibers are positioned between two compressive material layers (1, 2) and, with the fibers (3) located in alignment grooves (5) with one of the compressive layers (2) between fibers (3) and the groove (5) surface, compression is applied. For compression, two rigid substrates, disposed one on each side of the arrangement of fibers and compressive layers, are urged towards each other. As the compressive layers are being compressed, the fibers are urged laterally into the grooves and into optical alignment with the waveguide. Preferably, two rigid plates, one on each side of the above assembly, are urged towards each other for compression. The plates are urged together at a plurality of localized positions so that the force applied may be adjusted individually at each of these locations so as to more precisely align the fibers and waveguide. The invention also includes a package made by the method.

Cette invention a trait à un procédé de production d'un boîtier de guide d'ondes optiques (8) et à la mise en place de fibres optiques (3). Les fibres optiques sont placées entre deux couches de matériau compressif (1, 2) et, ces fibres se trouvant logées dans des encoches d'alignement (5) avec l'une des couches compressives (2) entre les fibres et la surface de l'encoche (5), on applique une force de compression. A cet effet, on presse l'un contre l'autre deux substrats rigides placés de chaque côté de l'agencement fibres et couches compressives. Lorsque les couches sont en cours de compression, les fibres sont poussées latéralement dans les encoches et en alignement optique avec le guide d'ondes. De préférence, on appuie sur deux plaques rigides, situées de part et d'autre de l'ensemble susmentionné et ce, de manière à obtenir la compression désirée. On appuie sur ces plaques à plusieurs emplacements précis de manière à pouvoir doser de manière individuelle la force appliquée à chacun desdits emplacements et ce, afin d'aligner avec davantage de précision les fibres et le guide d'ondes. L'invention concerne également un boîtier obtenu grâce à ce procédé.
