Abstract

A method for locating a mobile transmitter comprises the steps of (a) making a first estimate of the location of the mobile transmitter on the basis of a first transmission from the mobile transmitter; (b) causing the mobile transmitter to emit a second transmission; (c) making a second estimate of the location of the mobile transmitter on the basis of the second transmission; and (d) combining at least the first and second estimates to obtain an improved, more accurate estimate of the location of the mobile transmitter. Step (b) may comprise auditing (fig. 11c) the mobile transmitter to elicit an audit response, or terminating the call (hanging up) and then initiating another call by paging the mobile transmitter to elicit a page response. Step (d) preferably comprises averaging a plurality of statistically-independent location estimates.

Ce procédé de localisation d'un émetteur mobile comprend les étapes suivantes consistant: (a) à établir une première estimation de l'emplacement de l'émetteur mobile en fonction d'une première émission de cet émetteur mobile, (b) à provoquer l'émission par cet émetteur d'une seconde émission, (c) à établir une seconde estimation de l'emplacement de l'émetteur mobile en fonction de cette seconde émission, et (d) à combiner au moins les première et seconde estimations, afin d'obtenir une estimation meilleure et plus précise de l'emplacement de l'émetteur mobile. L'étape (b) peut consister (figure 11c) à vérifier l'émetteur mobile de manière à provoquer une réponse de vérification, ou à terminer l'appel (par raccrochement) et ensuite à établir un autre appel en appelant l'émetteur mobile pour provoquer de la part de celui-ci une réponse à cet appel. De préférence, l'étape (d) consiste à moyenner plusieurs estimations d'emplacement, indépendamment des statistiques.
